Finally, another Apple event has come and gone and there is a few things to talk about. Apple have announced their iPhone 12 range at the October event and nothing was left to the imagination.

iPhone 12 models and release date

As expected, Apple has released four models; the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and of course the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

You’ll be able to pre-order the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro from 16 October and it will be available from 23 October. Whereas the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro max will be available to pre-order fro 6 November and it will be available from 13 November.

Design

The history of the iPhone is evident throughout their new lineup. All models have a square edge that is reminiscent of the popular iPhone 4 and 5. However, there are differences in which Apple heritage is on display in each phone. With the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 home to an aluminium frame while the Pro models have polished stainless steel. You’ll all models have a glass rear with Apple choosing a glossy finish for the 12 mini and 12 while the 12 Pro models have a frosted finish.

Good news, all the models have an OLED display that has what Apple is calling True Tone and Haptic Touch. As you expect each phone has a different screen size with the iPhone mini home to 5.4-inch display, iPhone 12 with 6.1-inch display, iPhone 12 Pro also with a 6.1-inch and finally iPhone 12 Pro max with a 6.7-inch display.

Cameras

The camera features of the iPhone vary depending on the model. The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 both have a dual rear came, home to a 12-megapixel wide lens with a f/1.6 aperture and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with an f/2.4 aperture and a 120-degree field of view.

While the iPhone 12 mini and 12 have a dual-camera setup the 12 Pro has a triple rear camera. It also features two of the same lenses as the previous model alongside an extra 12-megapixel telephoto sensor that offers 2x optical zoom.

iPhone 12 Pro Max, the elder sibling has a bit more. A three-lens camera set up on the rear but an increase in the telephoto lens. 65mm focal length with a 2.5x optical zoom and optical image stabilisation. It also has a wide camera sensor which comes with an f/1.6 aperture 26mm focal length and 1.7µm pixels.

Night mode is no longer exclusive to their rear camera. All four models have an improved version of night mode on the rear and front. iPhone 12 Pro Max exclusively has the Night Mode in Portrait Mode. You’ll also find the LiDAR sensor ( currently on the 2020 iPad Pro) on this year’ Pro model.

Apple has finally added 5G to all four models of the new iPhone 12. You’ll also find the A14 chip as well as the latest iOS 14. The iPhone 12 models will come with 64GB, 128GB and 256GB of storage while the 12 Pro models come in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

Magesafe

One for the time vault, and maybe one of the biggest surprises of the night. MageSafe is back and is ready to be found at the back of the new iPhone. Well, when you purchase it of course. It is a circular magnet that attaches wireless chargers directly to the back of your phone. It can also charge both an Apple Watch and an iPhone at the same time.
