Most people don’t like change, hence why Apple still retain most of their customers, hence why the recent news about Cineworld (UK movie theatre) closing down has upset a lot of people. Change is new, its awkward and means we are forced to rethink how we did things and accept things will and can be different.
That is exactly the case with the Foldable devices. They were weird, awkward and many questioned why they even existed. But here we are, the next edition of the Fold. Samsung Galaxy z Fold 2.
The original
And here’s the thing. The Galaxy Z was ok but for a few minor problems. Taking off the screen protector (it was really just a thin display layer) ruined the display causing the phone unusable. The screen was also damaged by dust that got into the hinge, the device got nicks very easy due to the soft plastic. But despite that, the phone was great to hold, fit in most pockets and became a major entertainment gadget. Despite the flaws here we are with a new edition, which goes to show that the first one was a hit.
Design

Despite all its flaws, the book-style wasn’t one of them. It was a classic looked that was worth reusing to keep the design compact and simple. The colours aren’t anything too crazy, with Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black being the only colour options with further customisation done on the hinge of the device.
You’ll notice a standard punch hole at the centre of the external display and another on the right side of the internal display. What is a significant improvement compared to the last edition is the bezel. They’re much smaller and according to Samsung, they should now be 27 per cent smaller compared to the original.
With the new and improved hinge, you have the ability to lay the device at different angles, whilst the gaps are new reinforced to protect from dirt and dust. Accessing the phone is easy as you would find the fingerprint scanner next to the speakers on the edge.
Display
The phone has a 7.6-inch display when it’s unfolded which is a .4 increase from the last model. With the Ultra-Thin Glass protecting the display you wouldn’t have to worry about the issues of last years model. Best part? The refresh rate adapts to the type of content your using so you would never have a lag issue.
Internal
You’ll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ and 12GB of Ram running this device. It has an internal storage of 25GB should be good enough for most people. Helping you get through the day is a 4500mAh with fast wired/wireless charging on board. And of course reverse charging.

Lets be clear, this phone isn’t about its cameras, in fact its all about its entertainment capabilities but with the range of camera options on this device you can be forgiven for thinking otherwise.
As good as the cameras will be don’t expect the same system on their flagship devices; S20 Ultra and the Note 20 Ultra. With the Galaxy S20+ sensor running things, you can expect good enough performance in low light and well-lit conditions.
Final thoughts
Samsung have made some important improvements to a loved device. Yes it didn’t start off to a great start but by looking past its flaws many saw the benefits. No longer do you need an e-reader and dare I say it, a tablet on your commute to be kept entertained. One device, one soluton to all your everyday needs. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the ultimate phone for someone who wants the best of both worlds.
